Real Stories

How we made a difference.

1 Supporting independence with live‑in care

The situation: Our mother, Margaret, had been living alone since our father passed away. She was managing reasonably well, but we were increasingly worried about her falling and her inability to manage her medication reliably.

The challenge: We needed someone who could be with her around the clock, but we didn't want to move her into residential care – she loves her home and her garden.

What Pluto did: Pluto introduced us to Maria, an experienced live‑in carer who matched not only the practical requirements but also Mum's personality and sense of humour. Maria helps with all the daily tasks – preparing meals, sorting medication, and making sure Mum takes her walks – but more than that, she's become a friend.

The outcome: Mum is happier and safer than she's been in years. She still has her independence, but she knows there's always someone there if she needs them. Our family can finally sleep at night.

What we learned: Live‑in care isn't just about having a carer – it's about having the right person. Pluto's matching process made that possible.

2 A reliable staffing partner for a residential home

The situation: We operate a 40‑bed residential home for elderly residents with dementia. Like many care homes, we face persistent challenges with staffing – especially covering sickness and holidays.

The challenge: We needed a staffing partner who could provide reliable, trained staff at short notice, without compromising on quality or continuity.

What Pluto did: Pluto set us up with a dedicated account manager who understood our home's specific needs. They pre‑vetted a pool of carers who were already familiar with dementia care, so when we needed cover, we got people who could hit the ground running.

The outcome: We've reduced our reliance on expensive agency staff and improved our overall continuity for residents. Our staff appreciate the support, and our residents notice the difference.

What we learned: Having a staffing partner who truly understands your setting is worth more than any generic agency service.

3 Specialist support for a young adult with autism

The situation: We were asked to support a young adult with autism who had been struggling with transitions between home and day services. He needed consistent, patient support to help him feel safe and engaged.

The challenge: We needed a support worker who could build trust over time and who understood the specific sensory and communication needs of someone with autism.

What Pluto did: Pluto's matching process identified two potential support workers who had both autism training and experience with complex needs. We interviewed both and chose the one who seemed to connect most naturally.

The outcome: The support worker has been with our client for over six months now. He's more confident, more willing to try new activities, and his family is more relaxed. The consistency has been transformative.

What we learned: Specialist support isn't just about having the right qualifications – it's about the right personality and approach. Pluto understood that.

Care Advice 01 Aug 2026

Enhancing Independence and Comfort with Live‑in Care

Live‑in care is often the best solution for people who want to remain in their own homes but need consistent support. Unlike visiting care, live‑in care provides continuous presence – which means stability, security and peace of mind.

For many older adults, the thought of leaving their home is daunting. Live‑in care allows them to keep their routines, their pets, their garden – everything that makes their life their own. The caregiver becomes part of the household, providing practical assistance and emotional support.

Families also benefit – knowing that someone is there around the clock reduces the worry that comes with distance or frailty. It's not just care; it's reassurance.

At Pluto, we believe that live‑in care should be tailored to each individual. Whether it's help with mobility, medication management or simply a listening ear, our caregivers are trained to adapt to your needs.

Supporting Independence in the Comfort of Home

Domiciliary care is about giving people the support they need to stay independent at home. It might be help with getting up, washing, preparing meals or simply having someone to talk to. The goal is always to enable – not to take over.

For many people, a small amount of support can make a huge difference. It can mean the difference between managing at home and having to move into residential care. That's why we offer flexible, person‑centred care plans that fit around your life, not the other way round.

Our caregivers are trained to promote independence – they encourage people to do as much as they can for themselves, while stepping in when extra help is needed. It's a careful balance, but it's one that our teams handle with skill and sensitivity.

Companionship 19 Dec 2025

The Power of Companionship Care

Loneliness is one of the most under‑recognised health risks for older people. It affects mental wellbeing, physical health and overall quality of life. That's where companionship care comes in.

Companionship is about human connection – having someone to share a cup of tea with, to talk about the day, to go for a walk or to reminisce about the past. It's not about tasks; it's about presence.

Our companions are matched not just on skills, but on interests and personality. We believe that genuine connection is the foundation of good care. That's why we take time to understand what matters to you.

Whether it's a weekly visit or a daily check‑in, companionship care can make a world of difference – not just for the person receiving care, but also for their family, knowing that someone is there.
